Dear Senator (or Representative),
I am strongly opposed to legalizing same-sex marriage and urge you to vote against Senator Damon's bill, LD 1020. Traditional man/woman marriage is a fundamental social institution that provides a wide range of proven benefits to society. Legalizing same-sex marriage would so radically redefine this essential social institution that it would destroy it. If Maine were to legalize this new and radically different "genderless marriage" institution by enacting LD 1020 the state would be declaring with the force of law that men and women are interchangeable and that children do not need both a mother and a father. I am sure most Mainers do not agree with either of these policies and I hope you do not either. We must preserve traditional man/woman marriage in Maine. I urge you to vote LD 1020 out of committee with an Ought Not to Pass recommendation.
